Heather Patton

Heather specializes in recovery from toxic and abusive relationships, with a particular focus on narcissistic dynamics. She is Healing Self Compass’s lead practitioner for people seeking support in that area.

Areas of focus: Recovery from toxic and abusive relationships, with specialized support for narcissistic dynamics, trauma bonds, coercive control, boundary development, and rebuilding self trust.

Biography

Hi, I’m Heather, founder of Healing Self Compass. I work with people who are trying to make sense of toxic or abusive relationships, especially narcissistic dynamics, and the difficult questions that often follow. You may be second-guessing your own perceptions, struggling to hold a boundary, grieving what you hoped the relationship could be, or wondering what comes next. My role is to offer honest conversation, practical reflection, and support while keeping your choices in your hands.

This work is personal to me. I spent many years in an abusive relationship before I was able to leave. That experience changed how I understand the confusion, isolation, and loss of self-trust that can develop over time. It also became part of the commitment behind Healing Self Compass: helping people name harmful patterns without shame and reconnect with their own voice, judgment, and direction.

Professional training has given me useful tools, but tools alone do not create trust. Credentials can tell you how someone has been trained; conversation shows you how they listen and how they respond when things are complicated. I show up with directness, transparency, warmth, and no judgment. I will not tell you how your story should end or promise an outcome. We can look carefully at what is happening, what keeps repeating, what matters most to you, and which next steps feel realistic.

You do not have to share your entire story at once. We can begin with the part that feels most important today. That could be a confusing interaction, a boundary you are considering, a decision you are weighing, or simply the need to say something out loud without having it minimized. Healing Self Compass provides coaching, not therapy, diagnosis, legal advice, or crisis response. When a need falls outside coaching, clear boundaries and appropriate outside support matter.

Outside of HSC, my greatest joys are my three daughters, my grandchildren, lifelong friends who have become family, and my four-legged sidekick, Mav. I love traveling, being near the water, golfing, hiking, cheering on my favorite teams, listening to music, and saying yes to a new adventure when I can.

If you are wondering whether Healing Self Compass might be a good fit, let’s talk about it.

Areas of focus: Narcissistic Abuse Recovery | Trauma Bonds | Grief and Loss | Alzheimer’s Dementia Support

Biography

My work is deeply personal. I don’t just understand trauma. I have lived it.

Having personally experienced narcissistic trauma and having lost a parent to Alzheimer’s dementia, I fully understand these journeys not only from a clinical and educational perspective, but deep within my heart. As a Registered Nurse for 30 years, a Psychology graduate of Boston College, and a Certified NLP Practitioner and Life Coach, I also bring something that no degree alone can teach: the wisdom that comes from walking through the fires myself and finding my way to the brightness on the other side.

This personal experience allows me to connect with my clients in a way that is both compassionate and profoundly real.

Specializing in narcissistic abuse, trauma bonds, grief and loss, with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s dementia, these are not just my clinical areas of focus. They are personal chapters of my own story. It is precisely because I have experienced the deeply complex effects of narcissistic trauma, grief, and loss, and have literally clawed my way to personal freedom, that I am so passionate about helping others do the same.

I meet clients where they are and help them not only heal from what has hurt them but boldly reimagine what their lives can look like moving forward. My approach creates a safe, compassionate space where clients feel truly seen, deeply heard, and gently, yet powerfully, guided toward reclaiming their peace.

I live nestled in the mountains with my Pomsky, Lexi, where I find daily restoration in the beauty of the outdoors, often exploring new paths to waterfalls and rivers. Embracing this landscape affords me the opportunity to remain grateful for my faith, family, and friends. This gratitude and connection with nature are at the heart of my work, inspiring me to help others find their own path to healing.

I am also the proud mother of three and cherish all the little things in life, for the little things often turn out to be the BIG things.

Coaching scope

Clear roles and boundaries

Healing Self Compass provides coaching and education, not psychotherapy, clinical diagnosis, medical treatment, legal advice, or crisis care. A practitioner’s professional background does not change the scope of HSC services.

Heather’s signature specialty

Focused experience when narcissistic dynamics are part of the story.

Heather specializes in recovery from toxic and abusive relationships, with a special focus on narcissistic dynamics. If those dynamics are central to what brought someone to HSC, Heather is the practice’s lead practitioner for that work. This describes recovery coaching and pattern-focused support; it does not diagnose another person or turn HSC coaching into psychotherapy or licensed mental-health treatment.
